Gaspards, wild children of Europe
From 21 January 2007 the French Theatre Company Le Sablier has been in residency at the Masca Theatre in Bucharest. Under the artistic direction of Pascal Dubois, with an international group of actors, the aim is to create a new performance about Feral Children. This residency is part of a European project entitled "Gaspards, wild children of Europe" which started last summer in the form of a street performance in Lublin, Poland and continued in Brasov in October. The last performance of Gaspards will take place in St Herblain near Nantes, France, in May 2007. All the action elements of the project involve another group of young actors, aged 18-25, from three participating countries, Romania, France and Poland. The project is co-financed by the Culture 2000 programme of the European Union. Through the history of Gaspard Hauser a 'Wild child' found on the Market square of Nuremberg in the 19th century, young actors were initiated in the practice of street actions. Actions within the urban environment have been developed by Le Sablier for 10 years in France, but also in Poland, Germany and Bosnia. It is a mélange of classical theatre with on-site action involving inhabitants of mostly 'fragile' or 'difficult' quarters. In fact Le Sablier make a kind of registration in the group memory of the story born from encounter of actors with the townsfolk. This rich experience won by the group during the actions in Lublin and Brasov will reflect an actual spectacle which will be created during the residency. First public performances are planned for February 15 and 16 at the Masca Theatre. We intend to present this spectacle throughout Europe, especially in the places visited by the 'urban creations of Gaspards'.
