Rios Children

A girl and a boy were locked and starved in a bathroom for five years. Jasmine, age 16 on discovery, and her brother David, age 11, weighed just 41 and 31 pounds respectively.

In addition to the severely stunted growth of both children, David couldn't walk, as his legs and feet were deformed from living in confinement. He also suffered a speech impediment.

A year later, both children were doing much better. Jasmine had gained six inches in height and doubled her weight to some 98 pounds, but was still only 4 ft 6 inches tall, and couldn't walk or run well. In addition, her teeth were badly damaged. David could walk, and his speech impediment barely noticeable.
