Assicia, the Liberian Monkey Girl
Assicia emerges from the forest
Some time before 1940, Assicia appeared from the virgin forest in Liberia, and is assumed to have been brought up by chimpanzees. Assicia moved around on all fours, on knees and fingertips, with ankles bent, scratched herself in the manner of a monkey, and uttered quivering cries.
Assicia (Sylvana) never spoke
Assicia was renamed Sylvana (presumably because of her forest origins), never learnt to speak, and her favourite food was bananas.

Assicia receives extensive coverage in Le Livre des Enfants Sauvages by André Demaison; indeed, most of the book is given over to her.
