Feral children books | Science fiction stories and novels

There have been several works of science fiction based on a more-or-less feral children theme. Some of these involve humans being brought up by aliens rather than by animals (or vice-versa).

The division of books into "normal" fiction and fantasy/SF is somewhat arbitrary. Many of the books listed on the fiction page can be considered to be fantasy.

Tophero: Son of Smilodon

Tophero: Son of Smilodon
Ni, W W

ISBN 9780979290503

FeralChildren.com says Tutored by his sabertooth siblings, young Gora learns to master the prehistoric world of Opalon, with its smoldering volcanoes, dueling dinosaurs, and treacherous tar pits. But the discovery of a computer in a hidden cave changes Gora’s world: he realizes he is human and takes the name Tophero. His magnificent physique and sterling intelligence do not help to stave off loneliness; Tophero longs to meet others of his kind. But when they come, they bring destruction, and Tophero must use the primitive ways of the jungle to battle high-tech invaders. At stake: the survival of his home planet . . .the love of his life, an Earthling zoologist . . . and his very identity.

Stranger in a Strange Land

Stranger in a Strange Land

Ace Books, 2003-01
ISBN 9780441790340

FeralChildren.com says Stranger in a Strange Land is the story of Valentine Michael Smith, who is abandoned alone on Mars following an ill-fated manned expedition to that planet. The Wild Boy

The Wild Boy
Rochelle, Warren
Golden Gryphon Press, 2001-09
ISBN 9781930846043

FeralChildren.com says Humans have domesticated animals for thousands of years; in this novel, a spacefaring race descends on Earth to domesticate humankind. The Lindauzi came to Earth at the turn of the millennium with a mission to breed humans to become their emotional symbionts. Technically superior, within a generation the Lindauzi dominate the Earth, running a breeding program designed to produce humans capable of full emotional symbiosis. This is the story of Ilox, a human raised by the Lindauzi, his banishment and adoption by a tribe of wild humans, and his eventual reunion with his Lindauzi bond-mate, Phlarx. While alien invasion is a common plot in science fiction, this fresh voice breathes new life into such a story, focusing on the theme of what it means to be human.
