Robert, ein Affenjunge von Uganda
Robert, a victim of civil war
Robert lost his parents in the Ugandan civil war at the age of three in 1982, when Obote's looting and murdering soldiers raided their village, around 50 miles from Kampala. Robert then lived in the wild, presumably with Vervet monkeys, for three years until he was found by soldiers in 1985. One adult female monkey attempted to protect Robert from his captors.
Unable to speak
During his three years in the wild, Robert will have survived on a diet of fruit and berries. When found, he couldn't sit or stand, but only squat, and would never smile. After two years in a Kampala orphange, Robert was toilet trained but still couldn't talk.
